Kiriko Kubo<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kiriko Kubo was born in Tokyo and made her debut as a cartoonist \uff08manga-ka\uff09 in the early 1980s.
\nAfter the huge success of ‘Cynical Hysterie Hour’ and ‘Imadoki no kodomo’,
\nKiriko has gone on to direct short animation films, design CD and book covers, write essays,
\nchildren’s books and many other manga comics, including ‘Buckets de Gohan’
\n\uff08animated for television in 1996\uff09 and ‘Dobutsu uranai’ \uff081999-2007\uff09.<\/p>\n

Retrospective exhibitions of her work were held in Tokyo, Yokohama and Kyoto in 2001.
\nMore recent works include her collected essays about life in London,
\n‘Boku wa Ron-don’ \uff082012\uff09, a series of digitalized editions of her earlier work \uff082011-2014\uff09,
\nas well as ‘Londo-nya’ \uff08London Meiouw, 2017\uff09 and
\n‘Susume-Candem chikuyu boueitai’ \uff08The Candem World Self-Defence Force, 2019-2020\uff09.<\/p>\n

Kiriko has been living in London for more than 20 years and continues to publish widely in Japan.
\nHer work has been exhibited at the Japanese Embassy in London,
\nand she has given talks at the ICA and other venues,
\nincluding the universities of Manchester, Brighton and Aberdeen.
\nIn 2006 she appeared on Melvyn Bragg’s South Bank Show special on Japanese manga.<\/p>\n

Kiriko has also worked on a series of design projects for hospitals in the UK,
\nincluding the Evelina Children’s Hospital \uff082013\uff09 and the Children’s Accident and Emergency Dept.
\nat St Thomas’ Hospital \uff082014-2019\uff09.
\nAn English translation of two of her best-known series of manga,
